Reading List
Welcome to my reading list. I was interested, as a personal exercise, to see both the body of work I have been reading over the past few years, but in some ways curious about the quantity. I know for some of you looking at this it may not be as nearly as many as you have worked through (Jess), but to others it may be a lot. I’m not sure what I feel about it. I enjoy stories very much. Particularly those that don’t have much to do with reality, as it turns out.
First couple of points of self-disclosure.
- This is a running list of books that I have read since moving to Boston in September of 2003. Frankly, I just found it easier to remember things in that way. But also, including books read before and during college makes things rather complicated. In cases where I have re-read things, I have included them here
- A couple of these I’ve read multiple times (for example The Hobbit & the Lord of the Rings I’ve read 3 times since ’03, and the Harry Potter Series I read for a second time in preparation for the release of the final book)
- I am a lover of audiobooks. The majority of what you see listed below was listened to, not read on paper. I find it incredibly important that they be unabridged, and with the exception of 1776, all listed below have been the complete text
- I am a dreadfully geeky person, insofar as my love of fantasy, science fiction, or otherwise “fantastic” stories. I intend to write on this more later, but I love how many of these novels are able to use allegory or other literary methods to talk about otherwise complicated or stale ideas. Again, I think more of this is worth talking about in a post.
- I know that I’m forgetting some (Particularly the Non-Fiction). I’ll just add them as I remember.
